When we bought the car it came with a C4 automatic, which from the casting codes seems to be from 1968. The main difference between this C4 and one from 1965 is the shift pattern, a more familiar park-reverse-neutral-drive-second-first vs. a 1965 "green dot" style.

We completely disassembled the transmission and rebuilt it with new bands, clutch packs, and seals. We replaced the stock torque converter with one with a moderately higher advertised stall speed, and also added a ratchet shifter. While the shifter allows us to manually hold the car in lower gears longer and then slap it forward for upshift, we really put it in for looks and a more positive display of what gear the car was actually in vs. the stock shift assembly.
